Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles looks like a magical adventure that evokes childlike wonder thanks to its colorful, vibrant setting and characters.

Prideful Sloth, the new indie studio from Australia whose team boasts seasoned veterans from huge companies such as Activision and Rocksteady, has shared with us two brand-new vignettes that show off Yonder’s wonderful locations. Players will get to explore eight distinct environments, each containing their own flora and fauna. A quick glimpse at some of those locations can be seen in the short videos below.

If you need a reminder, as the protagonist, you find yourself shipwrecked on a huge island called Gemea, which is shrouded in a menacing murk. As you embark on a journey of self-discovery, you will also have the chance to uncover the secrets and mysteries of the island. You will find that the natives are kind-hearted folk who have endured many hardships since the arrival of the evil murk. Aside from joining forces with the locals, you will also befriend the Sprites, ethereal creatures capable of dispersing the troublesome murk.

The massive island of Gemea is a lush frontier comprised of eight distinct environments, including sunny tropical beaches and cold snowcapped summits. Not only does each location have its own flora and fauna, but it also features a day/night cycle and changing seasons. It seems that exploration and adventuring is the main gameplay mechanic in Yonder. However, if the player so chooses, they can engage in optional gameplay involving farming, crafting, cooking, fishing, and brewing. These activities will help the island flourish and strengthen your relationship with the locals.

“Yonder features exploration and adventure inspired by classic fantasy franchises, and blends them with fully fleshed out but entirely optional farming gameplay,” said Cheryl Vance, co-founder and lead designer of developer Prideful Sloth. “Adventure fans will instantly recognize Yonder’s mechanics, which are unified in a wholly original way, while finding themselves enraptured in the gorgeous animated world.”

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles launches for PC and PlayStation 4 on July 18.
